7-Day Taiwan Couple Itinerary (Mid-Range) | Complete Plan
This 7-day plan balances nature, food and culture for couples. Frankly, I mixed active days with relaxed ones so you won't be exhausted. In my view, it's ideal for a mid-range budget and keeps romance and foodie moments throughout. Note that some days need advance bookings in July.
💡 Local currency is the New Taiwan Dollar (TWD). Exchange rates and prices can vary by season; cards are widely accepted in cities but carry cash for markets and local transport.
Daily Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Taipei & Get a Taste
~$115Arrive at Taoyuan Airport, check in and rest briefly. I think an easy start works best. Visit Chiang Kai-shek Memorial early (08:00–10:00) to avoid heat and crowds.
Head to Taipei 101 in the afternoon; go up to the observatory and have lunch at Din Tai Fung (book ahead if possible). It's a good indoor option when it gets hot.
Evening at Raohe Night Market or Ningxia Night Market for street food: boba, grilled seafood and snacks. Honestly, these spots are great for couples.
All Days Overview
Day 1: Arrive in Taipei & Get a Taste
Arrive at Taoyuan Airport, check in and rest briefly. I think an easy start works best. Visit Chiang Kai-shek Memorial early (08:00–10:00) to avoid heat and crowds. • Head to Taipei 101 in the afternoon; go up to the observatory and have lunch at Din Tai Fung (book ahead if possible). It's a good indoor option when it gets hot. • Evening at Raohe Night Market or Ningxia Night Market for street food: boba, grilled seafood and snacks. Honestly, these spots are great for couples.
Day 2: North Coast — Yehliu, Jiufen & Shifen
Love coastal rock formations? Start early at Yehliu Geopark (08:00). Morning is better for photos. Expect heat and humidity later. • Then head to Jiufen Old Street for lunch and tea at a traditional teahouse. Streets are narrow and crowded in summer; book tea houses ahead if needed. • Finish with a short stop at Shifen: release a sky lantern (romantic) or visit Shifen Waterfall. Return to Taipei in the evening for a light dinner.
Day 3: Museums, History & A Panoramic City View
Spend the morning at the National Palace Museum. If you enjoy artifacts and exhibitions, this indoor visit is great and escapes the summer heat. • In the afternoon stroll around Longshan Temple and historic Dihua Street. The calmer vibe there feels locally romantic. • Want a night view? Hike Elephant Mountain for sunset and Taipei 101 views. It's short but steep—then enjoy a romantic dinner in Xinyi.
Day 4: To Hualien & Taroko Gorge — Dramatic Nature
Take an early train to Hualien (check times and book ahead). Arriving early gives you more time in Taroko National Park to explore gorges and cliff formations. • Do easy trails like Shakadang Trail and visit Eternal Spring Shrine. Warning: weather can change quickly in the gorge—bring a light rain jacket and water. • Quiet evening in Hualien. Stroll Hualien Night Market and try fresh seafood. Also, expect humidity—wear quick-dry clothes.
Day 5: Taichung & Relaxing Sun Moon Lake
Morning transfer to Taichung then on to Sun Moon Lake. Don't rush; the scenery invites relaxation. A boat cruise around the lake is ideal for couples. • Rent an e-bike or take the boat and visit Wenwu Temple. In July the sun is strong—take breaks and hydrate frequently. • Romantic lakeside dinner. A tranquil choice for couples after busy days. Tip: book a lakeside hotel for easy access.
Day 6: Alishan Mountains & Sunset Among the Pines
Early transfer to Alishan via Chiayi. If possible wake very early for the sunrise on the historic railway—very romantic but requires planning. • Walk among cedar forests, visit Sisters Ponds and easy forest trails. Mountain air is cooler than the plains—bring a light jacket. • Relax at a mountain lodge and enjoy a romantic evening. Note: services in Alishan are limited—plan meals and lodging ahead.
Day 7: Kaohsiung (or Tainan) & Departure
Travel in the morning to Kaohsiung by HSR or choose Tainan for a more historic vibe. Visit Fo Guang Shan or Lotus Pond depending on your pick. • Stroll Pier-2 Art Center and relax in artsy cafés. A fun cultural stop for couples before departure. • Final dinner at Liuhe Night Market. Then head to the airport or return to Taipei depending on flights. Small warning: allow plenty of transfer time to the airport.
General Trip Tips
- 1Frankly, July is hot and humid: pack lightweight cotton clothes, a hat and sunglasses.
- 2Book trains and hotels in advance—places fill up fast in July.
- 3In my view, include rest periods between active days so you and your partner don’t get burned out.
- 4Bring a small umbrella and refillable water bottle; sudden showers are common in summer.
- 5Carry an EasyCard and some cash for night markets and local buses.
